The Paris-based artist duo the edible woman, composed of Ran Chuxun and Sun Yue, was founded in 2022. Together, they use archival imagery to craft pieces infused with humor related to feminine forms, with the goal to disrupt conventional narratives. Echoing Margaret Atwood’s novel, their name embodies critical reflection on the societal consumption of women, with a playful, self-deprecating tone. Through the digitization of their European travel collection, the edible woman has brought to life another project, Maison Mary. This project tells stories of anonymous individuals within historical context through pictorial storytelling in a department store layout, integrating 3D modeling and old photographs for a time-traveling experience.
