Join BUTT and a panel of local cruising experts to debate the spatial dimensions of cruising for gay sex in the French Capital.
From the famous hedges of the Tuileries to the app-organized hookup hotspots of today, the geographies of cruising in Paris deserve exploration and celebration as important sites of community resistance and jouissance. The discussion will explore the mutual conditioning between gay cruising subcultures and the built environment of Paris.
With writer and curator Pierre-Alexandre Mateos, co-editor of the forthcoming book Cruising Pavilion: Architecture, Dissident Sex and Cruising Cultures (Spector Books, 2026).
Other speakers to be announced.
Cruising Pavilion, Architecture, Dissident Sex and Cruising Culture is the culminating book of a series of “Cruising Pavilion” exhibitions organized from 2017-2021 in Venice, Paris, New York, Fire Island, Stockholm and Geneva by Mateos, along with book co-editor Charles Teyssou, and curatorial collective co-founders Rasmus Myrup and Octave Perrault. The project investigates the influence of cruising cultures on the fields of architecture and urbanism by constructing a typology of the different spaces produced by sexual subcultures. Copies of the forthcoming book will be available for the first time.
