Jacques Merle – Des jacqueries - Paris Ass Book Fair

Jacques Merle, or Des Jacqueries, is a painter and an illustrator. His characters and figures are poetically woven into dreamlike landscapes. A multi-faceted artist, he first began with embroidery and illustration, then extended his practice to mural painting. He has collaborated with Carne Bollente, Debeaulieu, and, more recently, the Grand Mazarin.

“Tonight, I unhook the wings from my back. I comb my hair and put on my polished shoes.” Words are the main thread running through his drawings. They evoke his emotions, his questions, the images he loves and identifies with.

For the Paris Ass Book Fair, Jacques is presenting his first self-published fanzine — created from texts written on his phone — alongside prints, clothing, original drawings, and other jacqueries.
