Flaneur is a “site-specific” magazine that explores global stories through hyperlocal street-level perspectives. Flaneur embraces the street’s complexity, its layers and fragmented nature and collaborates with locals to unearth histories beyond the dominant narratives, explore current political issues or just shine a light on the things we normally walk past.
For their Paris issue, the team immersed themselves, collaborating with local editors and contributors to dissect the city’s ring road. This seemingly simple street revealed complex layers, marking the boundary between central Paris and its suburbs and raising questions about power dynamics. Given Paris’s influence on urban planning, the Boulevard Périphérique highlights both local and universal urgencies. These include the ever-present impact of violent colonial histories, the challenges of pollution and noise, the potential of grassroots voices, the hidden geometry of centralist power, and the alternative vision of archipelagic thinking.
