Léa Scheldeman

At the center of Léa Scheldeman’s work is a temporal fantasy that blends influences from the 1990s, 2000s, and 2010s. She reinterprets an archetype that emerged in 2000s pop culture: a mix between a princess and a femme fatale straight out of an MTV music video. Following this inspiration, she makes objects derived from her practice as a visual artist, for those who, like her, dreamed of being a star by dressing up in their mother’s wardrobe. The adage “fake it till you make it” takes shape in her work through the production of star-making objects created by upcycling.
