Lisa Schittulli

The project Comédie Pastorale, by visual artist Lisa Schittulli, approaches the image as a place of intimate experimentation (desires of what is afar, which are unmentionable or vulgar, aesthetic or absurd) and an active physical object. In printmaking, everything is tangible: the raw material is sculpted to become a kind of stamp; the paper receiving the greasy ink reacts like a living being; the artist’s hand joins the two in a physical effort—in love, as the printmakers say—to make the image appear. Comédie Pastorale is a nod to the irreverence of caricaturists. It is a performance that reactivates the good old days when images were distributed and transported by street vendors.
