Jacopo Benassi est artiste et auto éditeur. Il présentera Self-portrait of a Mammal, qui est le titre d’une performance, un parcours d’autoreprésentation en temps réel dans lequel son corps devient un instrument de musique. Il sample des sons émis par son corps en mouvement et les transforme en sons Noise, tout en réalisant des autoportraits qui sont projetés en direct. Le livre, une édition limitée à 100 exemplaires, se compose d’une sélection de photos prises lors des représentations et d’un CD. Il présentera aussi Jacopo Benassi’s collection of eroticized slippers (10 livrets dans un coffret en bois fait à la main). « Quand j’ai découvert mon homosexualité, dit-il, le garçon qui m’attirait portait des pantoufles. Le plus étrange, c’est qu’elles m’attiraient plus que le type lui-même. Ce livre rassemble toutes les pantoufles que j’ai utilisées et chéries depuis lors. C’est un travail sur une partie de ma vie, jadis privée et maintenant devenue publique. Elles représentent un élément important dans mon coming out. »
Jacopo Benassi is an artist and a self-publisher. He will be presenting Self-portrait of a Mammal, which is the title of a performance, a path of self-representation in real time in which his body becomes a music instrument. He samples the sounds made by his moving body and turns it into Noise sounds, while shooting self-portraits that are immediately projected. The book, published in a limited edition of 100 copies, consists of a selection of photos taken during the performances and a CD. Another work on display will be Jacopo Benassi’s collection of eroticized slippers (10 booklets in a handmade wood box set). “When I found out about my homosexuality, he says, the boy by whom I was attracted was wearing slippers. The oddest thing is that I was attracted by them more than I was by the guy himself. This book collects all the slippers I have used and treasured since then. It is a work about a part of my life, formerly private and now become public. They represent a significant element of my coming out.”
